Event Overview

The collapse of US energy corporate, Enron, in December 2001 ushered in the biggest bankruptcy in American history. Within two years, the US Congress had enacted the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Its aim is “to protect investors by improving the accuracy and reliability of corporate disclosures…”

Sarbanes-Oxley has impacted on just about every aspect of the activities of public corporations, and not just in the US. Its reach has strengthened even further the already formidable powers of the Securities & Exchange Commission.

The trends in America often surface in South Africa and Europe .  How will this more demanding environment affect M&A’s in this country?

The RainMaker Conference was designed to examine these issues and those that are peculiar to this country, specifically the legislated demand for greater black ownership of the economy. The breakneck speed at which black economic empowerment (BEE) deals are being executed has prompted concern in some quarters that the boundaries have not been adequately defined and that what constitutes fair, reasonable and acceptable openings for black ownership has not been properly debated.

Wherever possible, the broadest panel discussions and debates with audience participation was encouraged

The RainMaker was constructed to ensure the highest possible standard with many acknowledged domestic and international experts as speakers and participants.
