The above business mission and conference was an initiative of the South African Embassy in Turkey and the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and took place from 8-9 March in Istanbul, Turkey.

From discussions with the Ambassador we are very pleased that they were highly satisfied with the event. In fact, they have already asked Omega to start organising another one!

THE ITINERARY WAS AS FOLLOWS:

8 MARCH 2006:

09:00 – 13:00 Half-Day Conference

13:00 – 14:30 Lunch

14:30 – 17:00 SA Mission Members explored potential business opportunities with regional buyers, investors and suppliers.

Conference Speakers Included:

• Keynoter - HE LM Sobizana Mngqikana, South African Ambassador to Turkey

• Selcuk OK, Deputy Secretary General, Istanbul Chamber of Commerce

• Graham Bell, Director: Principal Trading, Standard Bank London

• André van Straten, First Secretary, South African Embassy, Ankara

• Dr Denis Worrall, Chairman, Omega Investment Research

• Paul Rogers, Project Development Consultant, Western Pacific Investimento. Lda.

• Johan-Paul Olivier, Managing Director, Garnett-Adams

• Mustafa Sesli, Managing Director, Sesli Textiles

9 MARCH 2006:

13:00 – 14:00 Lunch

14:00 – 17:00 SA Mission Members explored potential business opportunities with regional buyers, investors and suppliers.

• Turkish attendees were selected by the Chamber of Commerce and the South African Embassy in Turkey and were invited on the strength of their interest in South Africa.

• Business Mission ended with Complimentary Istanbul by Night Dinner Tour.

No doubt there will be follow ups from both sides. We regard this initiative in Turkey as the start of a mutually beneficial relationship.
