Objectives
|
|
Australia
is one of the world’s great sources of local treasure. Out of
the ground (on land and under water) has come wealth to create a host of
lucrative industries.
Australia’s landscape is littered with mines and mining towns bearing evocative
names like Rum Jungle, Noble’s Nob, Broad Arrow,
Bordeaux
and
Siberia, and stories abound of fortunes won and lost.
Recently,
Australian mining is probably the biggest beneficiary of the
emergence of China
as a major economic power; and Australian mining companies have explored
new methods of raising capital. At a time when there was a marked
resurgence of investment interest in the mining and the resource sector,
this conference in London – one of the premier resource investment
centres internationally – reflected these developments.
This conference addressed Australian mining in all aspects and at
all levels. Experts from the industry discussed Australian
mining’s long-term prospects; established explorers and producers
showcased their projects, plans and expectations to the most
important capital markets in the UK; emerging juniors
had the opportunity to pitch for
capital; and resource funders promoted their funds.
THEMES:
-
Market prospects for gold, diamonds and other minerals and metals
-
New frontiers for Australian mining – Thailand, China, etc.
-
Trends in capital raisings – e.g., the role of AIM
-
China as a major source of demand for minerals
-
Australian mining in Africa
-
The explosion of juniors on the mining scene

The
conference title was inspired by Geoffrey Blainey’s book The Rush
That Never Ended: A History of Australian Mining, the classic work
on Australian mining history. Published by Melbourne University
Publishing Ltd in 2003, and originally published in 1963, it is now in
its fifth edition.
