Omega’s
Third Annual Singapore Global Gold, Diamonds & Precious
Metals Conference took place on Thursday 28th
August 2003 in a magnificent conference room in the
world-class Marina Mandarin Hotel. In access of 80
representative of major international and Singapore
institutions seriously interested in funding and in
investing in the resource sector attended. We stress that
attendance was by invitation and therefore ensured a
seriously interested audience. Corporate presenters included
three Australian-listed companies – one gold-mining and
two into diamonds. John Jones, Executive Chairman of Troy
Resources NL, has presented at previous Omega-Singapore
conferences and has a vigorous “down-under” approach. He
spoke immediately after Juerg Kiener, Managing Director and
Chief Investment Officer of Swiss Asia Capital had
brilliantly made the case for investing in Gold at this
time; and John’s message was clearly well-received.
Namakwa
Diamond Company
mines diamonds around Port Noloth on the West Coast of South
Africa; and its chairman, Karl Simich eloquently presented
his company’s case for investor support. Denis Worrall,
non-executive chairman of Crown Diamonds NL (another
listed Australian company) stood in for Johan Dippenaar, the
company’s CEO, who was not able to attend. Denis described
Crown’s assets and aspirations and capital needs. Thomas
Wexler, Tokyo partner of the British firm of lawyers, Ashurt
Morris Crisp, dealt with the risk involved – and how
to manage them – in investing in resource-based companies.
Once
again, may we remind you that brief outlines of the
presentations will be carried in Omega’s Junior Mining
Consultancy’s September newsletter, RockFace Finance.
Make
a note now that the Fourth Annual Singapore Global Gold,
Diamonds & Precious Metals conference will take place at
the Marina Mandarin on Thursday 28th October 2004
in Singapore.
