Although
this was the 5th international investment conference
organised by Omega/Sakaza and hosted by the IDC of South
Africa over the past six months (conferences already held
in Cologne, Amsterdam, Berlin and Dublin) the South African
delegation were hardly prepared for the physical and
cultural differences.
To
exit Mumbai International Airport at 23:30 pm into a traffic
jam, with the temperature at some 31 degrees (the proximity
of the sea has a cooling effect !!) was quite an
introduction to India.
The
oasis in this opening setting was the magnificent Oberoi
Towers in the heartland of the financial and business
district where the conference was held.
The
profile of the Mumbai conference was to provide
cutting-edge insight to attending delegates of opportunities
that exist for Indian pharamaceutical, chemical, textile and
jewellery organisations to set up JV's with the Industrial
Development Corporation of South Africa - and an e-mail
received on our return from Mr S K Singh of Cachet India
would appear to refelect that we were most successful in our
aim :
